Upper Sirhowy Woodlands Gateways
In 2008 i was commissioned by Caerphilly County Borough Council to design and produce a series of 11 entrance ways into the community woodlands in the upper Sirhowy Valley. I designed a series of eight gateways varying from pedestrian gates, bridleways and vehicle gates along with three stiles. Each gateway combined Oak, local stone and cast iron to produce entrances that, over time, would blend into the environment but also reflect the industrial history of the area.
Working with local school pupils a series of roundels were designed inspired by local flora and fauna. The designs were cast in iron and set into the iron gateway features.
